FRIDAY 28TH MARCH 2008: STAFF versus YEAR 11

The long awaited ‘Fabulous Friday’ Game of the Season took place on Friday at ETC – The annual Staff Vs Year 11 football match.

The Staff team were missing Mr. Raybould (Injured) and Mr. Stewart (Late – Don’t worry, he received a detention), but otherwise were at full strength. The Year 11 fielded the A team, plus Danni Chapman and Chelsea Walder from the successful girls football team.

The opening exchanges were even, with some strong, but fair tackles being made, especially Mr. Moore’s ‘Reducer’ on Walder. The Staff team could only muster some long range efforts on goal as the game was very scrappy in the early stages. The Year 11 team made the breakthrough after 10 minutes, when a good through ball by Fred Pope caught the staff back four too high up the pitch, which let the unmarked Ben Clarke run clean through and slot the ball past Mr.Hobbs with a fine finish with his shin. The staff team were shocked by this unexpected score line and Clarke should have scored a second when put through just minutes later in an identical situation.

The Staff gradually started to put some moves together and Mr. Turner, Mr. Ellis and Mr. Moore all had opportunities to equalise, but they could not find the target.

At half time, several changes were made to both teams, and the game opened up with more chances being made. Mr. Stewart should have scored in the first minute of the half, but could only kick clean air. The turning point of the game happened 10 minutes into the second half when a great run by Mr. Moore was cynically ended in the penalty box by a crude tackle by Chapman. Miss Abdalla had no option but to award a penalty. Some expected a red card, as she was denying a clear goal scoring opportunity, but it was not forthcoming. Mr. Moore stepped up to take the penalty, but he smashed it against the bar and the ball rebounded away to safety. Further chances for Mr. Moore and Mr. Ellis came and went, and Luke Gower made a great save from Mr. Sams. The Staff were getting frustrated and the petulant Mr. Bowles was booked for arguing with the referee.

Against the run of play, a corner from Barney Feek was headed in by the unmarked Fred Pope to make it 2-0. It was soon 3-0 when Mr.Hobbs fumbled a long range effort and Cory Godwin followed up like a young Kevin Davies to score from one inch. Feek had a great chance to make it 4-0, but Hobbs made
a great save at his feet.

The staff team continued to press for a goal, but the ball just would not break. With 2 minutes left, the staff grabbed a deserved goal when Mr. Bowles beat 8 players and rounded the goalkeeper 3 times before getting down on his knees and heading the ball into the net. (This is what he said happened anyway).

The game finished 3-1, which was played in a great spirit for the whole match.

The staff have learnt a lot in this defeat – We now know how it feels like to be Arsenal – We dominate the game and don’t get a suitable reward.

Wednesday 19th March: YEAR 8 GIRLS FOOTBALLETC 0 WILLINGDON 1

We were unlucky in this game as we had a lot of the possession, but couldn’t seem to hit the ball on target. We had many powerful runs coming from Immy Robinson and Rachel Gunn, however unfortunately the ball would not drop for us to have a real crack at goal. Tanya Gregory came on as super sub and nearly scored with her first touch, only to see her effort fly wide of the left post.Willingdon won a free kick near the edge of the D and switched on before any of the ETC girls, took an early shot and caught the ETC defence and keeper off guard to score. Despite many efforts ETC could not equalise.

MOM: RACHEL GUNN: “Strong in goal during the first half, effective passing when on pitch; unlucky not to score”.

Wednesday 19th March: YEAR 7/8 GIRLS FOOTBALLETC 0 WILLINGDON 8

Despite an enthusiastic approach to the game from the girls, we were outplayed in every position. Willingdon had some very strong experienced players that play regularly outside of school, which made it near on impossible for us to settle on the ball. Some good saves came from Jordanna Quinnel, but Willingdon were just too strong for us. Holly Marshal and Vicky Davies battled well going forward but we never got a clear chance to shot. Great effort from all involved.

Friday 14th March: SPORTS RELIEF RUN A MILE

The PE department kicked off sports relief weekend with a sponsored mile run around the school field.

Students and staff were asked to contribute £2 and run/walk/skip/ 3 legged race whatever they could do to complete the mile circuit.
The atmosphere was good and students who took part really embraced the idea of harnessing sport to give a very powerful message about the lives of less fortunate children around the world, and raise money at the same time.

The Elite group was won by Year 9 Billy Alsop, and a special mention goes to the girls that ran a 3 legged race in fancy dress; Zoe Drummond, Eve Drummond and Amy Hylands.

£150 was raised and will be sent to the sport relief fund.
The PE department would like to say a big thank you for the efforts of every student
that took part, and to Lorraine Lynch for organising the event.

Tuesday 4th March: YEAR 8/9 RUGBY TOURNAMENT

ETC entered the Eastbourne and inter-partnership schools rugby tournament held at Eastbourne RFC. The first game was against Ratton who caught us cold, poor defensive play and a lack of effective tackling by ETC lead Ratton to a victory that they did not deserve. Match 2 saw ETC play Cavendish who were technically the best team there, but ETC have Ty Berry, and Billy Alsop whose exciting runs kept the crowds warm. ETC turned out winners in a close fought game.Match 3 saw Willingdon push ETC to the limit, excellent defensive play by Jo Marodza, Dale Parsons and the man of the match and indeed the tournament captain Jake Wallis playing on despite an ankle injury (Dunkirk Spirit!); good support from the year 8 students who played their hearts out; and hopefully learnt something from the experience. In the end ETC won by 2 clear tries, and indeed going onto win the tournament on points. The team go on now to represent the Eastbourne area in a county tournament, for the 1st time.

Wednesday 5th March: Year 9, 10 and 11 RUGBY MATCH (Friendly)

The next day ETC played in a friendly against Mr Turners old school Lewes Old Grammar, despite great tries from captain Fred Pope (who led by example) and the pacey Ty Berry, Lewes Old Grammar school proved to strong. Man of the Match was Cory Goodwin whose excellent tackling is what all the team must do to progress further. Lewes Old Grammar school had 2 Sussex schools players and 1 English schools player in their squad. The match was played in an excellent spirit, and was a great example of school boys’ rugby at its best. Hopefully ETC will have learnt something from it.Many thanks to Mr Ellis, Mr Turner, Mr Upton, Mrs Sturgess, all PE staff, and the boys and girls from year 9 for their support in the tournament.

Monday 10th March: TABLE TENNIS

Hannah Blundell, Charleigh Crotty, Grace Costello and Chelsea Walder all travelled to Bishop Bell for ETC’s first ever girls table tennis match.They each took on two players from Bishop Bell in a best of 3 sets matches. The girls were a resounding success, with Walder, Costello and Crotty winning both games and Blundell winning one and losing the other.The Year 9 girls then took on the Bishop Bell team in a doubles match and won 2-0. TC were winning after the 1st and 2nd quarters, the end of the 3rd quarter saw them go in 1 point down; the final score finished 41-29 to Willingdon.Fitness was a major problem as we only had 5 players compared to Willingdon’s squad of 10.Lewis Oliver as ball handler played well, he went past his players on numerous occasions then looks to pass or shoot. Connor Bridger played well throughout the whole match.

MVP: LEWIS OLIVER “stepped up to the mark as we had a lot of injuries, and played very well.”

CHARLEIGH CROTTY 14, HANNAH BLUNDELL 12, SHANTELLE OMAR 12, JESS GOUVEIA 12, LOLA OLUSANYA 8, JAZ IZZARD 2.As was expected the year 9 girls went on to continue in their unbeaten run this season, with a spectacular and professional job against Willingdon.Playing at home for the first time this season, the girls moved the ball around rapidly and with precision; making it near on impossible for Willingdon to even gain possession. Their offensive play was phenomenal; with some adventurous and entertaining breaks that were great to watch from the sideline. All girls involved demonstrated high class performances. Charleigh Crotty strong defensively, picked out some defence splitting passes on the attack. Hannah Blundell and Shantelle Omar both demonstrating admirable ball handling skills that would leave their markers tied up in knots. Jess Gouveia, a rock defensively as always showing great skills and disguise on the ball, Lola Olusanya played with great athleticism when rebounding and worked hard around the court. Jaz Izzard made powerful runs forward with the ball, and showed good speed around the court.An overpowering performance from the team, with Willingdon getting a consolation basket on the final whistle, final score ETC 60; Willingdon 4. (2 or 4?)

MVP: CHARLEIGH CROTTY “Outstanding vision when passing, a ‘complete’ player, demonstrating all the qualities you would want in a player”.

Bishop Bell brought half a year 8 and 9 team to this year 9 fixture. The convincing win has now taken the ETC boys through to the Inter-partnership finals against Dorothy Stringer in Hastings the first Tuesday back from half term (26th). A solid performance from the year 8 team away to Willingdon, although the girls are used to a lot of space on court because of the size of our sports hall; they managed to adjust quickly to the small gym used at Willingdon. Willingdon started well with the advantage of being at Home, but it didn’t take long for key players such as Immy Robinson to turn on the style, with offensive drives and good Defence.All girls were strong in attack, and managed to go forward with great fluidity. Baskets were coming from all players on court and it proved to be a great team performance. Sapphira Haydes and Rachel Gunn demonstrated a strong physical presence when rebounding, winning about 80% defensive/offensive rebounds which is why they scored 6 points each. Immy Robinson was the engine of the team and worked at an extremely high level throughout, Mel Albrow passed and moved well to support, improving her defensive play in the second half of the game. Whilst Chloe Baker had an outstanding game, and drove the team forward shattering the Willingdon defence with her powerful lay-ups.

A convincing performance all round left the score 22-6 to ETC.

MVP: CHLOE BAKER “Superb Driving forwards and a self assured performance that set the benchmark for the ETC attacks”.

The year 7 basketball team put in a dominant performance against Willingdon to end the seasons fixtures with another win. This result means that the boys still remain unbeaten in their division which is a magnificent achievement. Playing infront of the television cameras for the first time, the boys showed no nerves and soon got into their stride and quickly put points onto the board. Cane Bruce and Callum Dell provided the strength and power early in the game to pick up any offensive or defensive rebounds which drove ETC into a healthy lead that they never looked like losing. Paul Weatherby again showed tremendous drive as a point guard, and led the team well in his first game as captain.Throughout the game, the team constantly put pressure onto the opposition which resulted in a number of turnovers in ETCs favour, from which they were able to fast break and score. Sam Derrick scored his first points for ETC with a long range effort which got his team mates on the bench onto their feet with excitement and rapturous applause. Well done Sam.The game also allowed Craig Dell and Danny Rodford the opportunity to try their hand at point guard which they both did exquisitely and scored some fine baskets from their burst up the court.

PLAYER ANALYSIS: Cain Bruce: Always determined and looking for the ball in attack. A tower of strength. Alex Chakabva: Improving game by game. Came close to scoring a number of times and showed better understanding of the game. Joe Chapman: His bets game so far. Score some nice baskets and demonstrated good defensive play. Callum Dell: Exhibited good technique throughout on his shots and drove the team on with his overall play.

Craig Dell: His best game so far. Slotted easily into his role as point guard and now gives Mr Raybould even more options for his team.

Sam Derrick: Scored his first points for ETC. Demonstrated better understanding of the game, selecting the correct passes according to the situation.

Michael Villegas: A constant menace to any team. Fully involved in his duties as forward.

Danny Rodford: Looked like he had been playing as point guard all his life. Adapted easily to his new role when asked to and scored a delightful lay-up.

Paul Weatherby: The drive behind the team. The opposition could get nowhere near him when he had the ball.

MVP: CRAIG DELL “for his adaptability to his role as point guard, and quick dribbling skills.” However Mr Raybould would like to congratulate

JOE CHAPMAN who had his best game for ETC so far and ran a close second to Craig. Well done Joe. That’s it boys, no more arranged fixtures. ETC faced a tough start to the season, away at Bishop Bell. Things did not start well with 5 regular players missing from the squad for varying (poor) reasons.After the first two quarters, the game was out of reach due to poor marking and bad decisions in attack. However, some strong words at half time and extra determination and concentration led to ETC winning the third quarter and losing the fourth by only two points.This was some player’s first match for the school, so if they can learn from this defeat, then a win will be just around the corner.
MVP – JACK SHOLL – “Listened well, good attitude and played a number of positions well.”

A disappointing 3 v 3 tournament by the year 11 boys, they Battled well against some strong opposition.

Thursday 7th February: YEAR 10 BOYS BASKETBALL
The Year 10 team were drawn in a tough group, but managed to gain some respectable results:
ETC 4 – 4 Cavendish
ETC 14 – 0 Peacehaven
ETC 2 – 8 Bishop Bell

In the first match, it was a very even game against Cavendish which could have gone either way. Seb Dell and Tendayi Mtambara scored baskets to put ETC in the lead, but Cavendish equalised on two occasions. ETC thrashed a poor Peacehaven team in the second match, with Mtambara scoring 3, Aaron Norwood 2 and Joe Tingley 2.
In the final group match, ETC struggled defensively against a massive Bishop Bell team. Despite Mtambara playing superbly and scoring ETC’s only basket, ETC missed several good shooting opportunities and ended up finishing 2nd in the group. ETC faced Lewes in the 3rd/4th play-off match. ETC should have scored more points, but lacked the finishing touch to some good moves. In fact, it was left to Dell to score to make it 2-2 with seconds to spare to take the game to the free throw line.ETC held their nerve to win 1-0, with Mtambara scoring the only basket.
MVP: TENDAYI MTAMBARA “good rebounding defensively and offensively”.

Wednesday 6th February: YEAR 9 BOYS BASKETBALL

As expected our strongest team in the school took the tournament by storm. Joe Marodza, Billy Alsop, Ty Berry and Big Bob Olusanya did a professional job and won every group game; and convincingly beat Bishop Bell 10-2 in the final.MVP: BIG BOB “stepped up to this level and looked at home.”

A first-class performance from the year 9s. Sharp passing, fast breaks and incredible lay ups from all four that were involved.The girls looked a different class at the tournament held at Hailsham. They blew away the opposition to win the group; that set them up for a show down with Bishop Bell for 1st place.The final saw the girls step their games up yet another level, with Hannah Blundell and Shantelle Omar both very quick on the break and showing great skill on the ball; Jess Gouviea defensively very strong and kept Bishop Bells biggest threat quiet for us, and Charleigh Crotty again rising to the challenge, driving into the basket aggressively and scoring well deserved points for us. The girls beat BISHOP BELL in the final 10-2, ranking them number 1 out of the 10 teams participating.
MVP: CHARLEIGH CROTTY, HANNAH BLUNDELL, JESS GOUVEIA and SHANTELLE OMAR “great hustle and some explosive attacking play; great attitudes and a good team performance”.

ETC topped their group convincingly having won 4 out of 4 games. Imogen Robinson really drove the team forward and worked hard all around the court. Sapphire Haydes and Chloe Baker demonstrated strong defensive plays when needed; whilst Kirsty Timms displayed a marked improvement in her attacking plays, particularly her lay-up.Bishop Bell proved to be too strong for ETC in the final, with two very tall girls that rebounded any lose ball; making it hard for us to keep any possession. The game finished 12-2 Bishop Bell, leaving ETC to take 2nd place in the tournament; out of 10 teams.

A great team performance. Well done to all involved!!

Having won 3 and lost 1 the girls won their group and made it to the 1st and 2nd place play off. Holly Marshall and Kayla McCarthy both showed great ability on the ball when attacking the basket, and wowed crowds with their lay-ups; with Abbie Sanders winning anything defensive in the air and generously distributing the ball to her team mates on numerous occasions.

A convincing start to the staffs’ season at home to Willingdon, a strong team performance with some well organised zone defence, forcing Willingdon to shoot the long ball. Mr Booth and Mr Jones were strong when rebounding, which helped us keep possession and create many offensive breaks.

MVP: BEN BOWLES “How he has never played professionally is beyond me, this week Hampden Park; next week NBA!!!”

A bit of a slow start for the girls with no one really getting stuck in, allowed Willingdon to have a confident look at the beginning of the game. ETC gave away a lot of free kicks in the first few minutes that gave Willingdon the opportunity to strike at goal, Shantelle Omar however made some good saves to keep the game at 0-0.Finally a break through came when Hannah Blundell and Lauren Hughes worked the ball up the pitch for Hannah to finish, making it 1-0 ETC. Willingdon however responded with a great strike to even things up. Still ETC had a lot of possession but failed to pass the Willingdon keeper. The closing stages saw us keeping possession well to create openings, strikes from Lauren Hughes and Charleigh Crotty made the score 3-1 at half time.The second half started as the first ended, the only difference being a change in goal keeper, Charleigh Crotty kindly allowed Shantelle Omar to have a go on pitch. The score soon went to 4-1 with Blundell getting her second strike of the game; Omar was also quick to get herself onto the score sheet taking it to five for ETC. Lola Olusanya, and Bekkie French weren’t shy in getting stuck in and Emily Gillam had a couple of good shots saved. Again Willingdons striker netted herself a second fantastic goal with a strike of precision and power making it 5-2. Lauren Hughes answered by finishing a well worked team goal. Jazmine Izzard was strong as always in defence and Willingdon struggled to get anywhere near our goal in the closing stages of the game.Some great passing moves lead to 2 more strikes for Shantelle Omar, finishing the game ETC 8; Wllingdon 2; a first-class performance by the year 9s.

A fantastic performance from the squad, having not had a game since the BISHOP BELL title clash, ETC played well but not to their potential in the 1st quarter. It took until the second quarter for them to really start turning on the style, the defending was tight; and our turn over of the ball was outstanding. The offensive breaks were aggressive, each player showed great momentum on the attack. Some great vision and early passing allowed the girls through for some low pressure lay-ups. Some very high quality moments in the game, that made the girls look a different class. Hannah Blundell pacey on the attack, putting away many lay-ups and scoring a great 3 pointer. Charleigh Crotty again showing great strength in defending, and picked out some defence breaking early passes for one of her team mates to go on to score. Shantell Omar working hard for the team, a really determined performance with basket assists, and demonstrating intelligent play by using the legal block. Jess Gouviea as always was a defensive rock, making it hard for Ratton to get any shots away, showing great strength when rebounding, and thinks ahead in the game when passing. Emily Gillam worked extremely hard when marking her player to deny any space, so close to scoring a basket this week.We started the 3rd quarter 31-4 up with the year 8 girls in the starting 5 (Immy Robinson, Sapphire Haydes, Chloe Baker, Kirsty Timms). The girls were great in the attack but at times lacked some awareness when defending. Still the girls proved to be too much for Ratton, with Kirsty, Sapphire and Chloe all managing to score a basket, finishing the quarter 37-10.The final quarter saw the return of the year 9s from squad. Having rested and rehydrated the girls were full of energy and showed no easing up in the assault on Rattons basket, the passing was incredible and the movement off the ball was exceptional; finishing the game 65-10.Well done girls and a great team performance.

The year 7 boys’ basketball team played their third fixture of the season away at Tideway. After the long minibus drive to the fixture the boys started slowly and soon found themselves 6-0 down in the first few minutes. The ETC boys were yet to get into their stride and a change in the line up was needed. Kane Bruce was brought off the bench and gave ETC added strength in height in offence and defence. ETC soon levelled the score, and from then on did not look back. The team stood firm throughout the game in a fiercely competitive match. The team as a whole committed less fouls throughout the game, compared to the previous game against Bishop Bell. This was very encouraging to see. From the second quarter onwards the team played some amazing basketball showing great awareness and ever improving understanding of the game. There were a number of highlights throughout the game; a wonderful three pointer came from Ben Hanson which drew a rapture of applause from his fellow teammates. Kane Bruce, Michael Villegas, and Callum Dell again showed tremendous physical strength and determination in Offensive and defensive rebounds. They were supported by Alex Chakabva who played his best game so far for ETC, Alex also scored his first points for the team. Paul Weatherby drove the team forward at every opportunity as point guard, and scored some valuable points for the team. Each player should be very pleased with their individual performance. Their shots and lay-ups were executed with good technique, and their knowledge and understanding is improving game by game. Most pleasing of all, the boys have developed a great team spirit and exemplified good sportsmanship throughout. Mr Raybould would like to make a special award for ‘most improved player’ to Alex Chakabva. Alex scored his first points for the team and gave a good all round performance.

The year 9 B-team took part in the ‘B league’ tournament against 3 other A-teams from Hailsham, Lewes Priory, and Cavendish. In any other school our squad of 8 players would make up an A-team.

Each school put forward 2 teams, our A-team won the tournament, winning 6 games and drawing 1. Jon Reed top scored in the whole tournament, Ashlee Ford, Beau Baxter Smith, and Jake Taylor made up the winning team. Our B-team finished 2nd in the tournament, only losing 2 matches. Chris Bennett, Tanaka Shoniwa, Tey Franco, and Ricky Cummings performed well under pressure.

It was great that our B-team finished higher then 3 other schools A-teams in the tournament.

The year 7 basketball team put in an exceptional performance against a strong Bishop Bell team. Faced with their first fixture away from home, the team got off to the perfect start by scoring the first 4 points of the game which quietened the vocal home support.

From then on both teams were involved in a highly competitive game with players from both teams showing some fine basketball play. Both teams were cancelling each other out, and it was up to Mr Raybould and Mr Moore to offer some genius tactical plays which allowed ETC to pull away from Bishop Bell in the fourth quarter.

However Bishop Bell replied and ETC were faced with a nervous last few minutes of play, with the score at 19-16. ETC stuck to their guns and showed great character in keeping Bishop Bell at bay. The final whistle was greeted with great cheer from the ETC team, with the score finishing ETC 19 - Bishop Bell 16.

There were some great individual performances in the team:
Kane Bruce- showed good strength and determination on offence and defence.
Alex Chakabua- good support play when introduced off the bench.
Joe Chapman- demonstrated close dribbling skills, and adapted well to a different playing position.
Callum Dell- worked well with Kane in offence and defence, and showed good movement in the key.
Craig Dell- fast dribbling skills, and simply ghosted past the opposition.
Sam Derrick- Improving game by game, forced opponents into errors on a number of occasions.
Ben Hanson- Good captains performance, covered every area of the court.
Michael Villegas- Used strength to out muscle his opponents on offence and defence.
Danny Rodford- Winning rebounds against his taller opponents, and whizzed up and down the court.
Paul Weatherby- A touch of class, great understanding of the game; and drove ETC forward as point guard.
MVP: Mr Raybould could not separate two boys. So his Most Valuable Player goes to Kane Bruce and Paul Weatherby.Well done year 7, a brilliant performance from all the team.

The year 7 Basketball team had their 1st fixture of the season at home against Seaford Head. Both schools were split into 3 teams and played each opposing team once in a 3 v 3 game. The boys showed great skill level in all games and all worked hard for their respective team. Of the 9 games that ETC played, the boys won 8 games and drew 1, scoring a total of 58 points with 22 against.The boys played a 5 v 5 game on a full size basketball court and carried on with their success from the 3 v 3 games. There were some great individual performances during this game. Kane Bruce and Michael Villegas showed great physical strength and determination when rebounding. Danny Rodford and Craig Dell showed great pace with the ball, whilst Paul Weatherby showed a great understanding of the game in his positional play.At the end of the game, the boys ran out winners with a score of 26-6. This made a total score of ETC 84- Seaford 28.

This game really did see massive improvements from the previous against Cavendish. The girls were anxious at the beginning at the thought of playing Bishop Bell who are renowned for having strong basketball teams, in only their second game of the season.The 1st quarter saw Bishop Bell go 6-0 up in the first few minutes, ETCs nerves were showing and it took one or two key players to start lifting the confidence of the rest of the team. ETC finished the quarter trailing 10-6. The second quarter ETC really took the game to Bishop Bell, Kayla McCarthy showed some aggressive offensive play which inspired the rest of the team to get stuck in. Another strong performance from Paige Moss, driving into the Key and scoring Lay ups. We managed to turn the ball over 2 or 3 times to catch Bishop Bell on the fast break, Which often resulted in McCarthy driving down the wings, passing to Hollie Marshall or Paige Moss to finish. After a confident 2nd quarter performance we came in 16-14 in the lead.This was now a very equal game, both teams fast on the attack, and quick to defend. Abbie Sanders really stood out in this half as she was out Jumping and claiming any rebounded ball from the offense and defence. Most missed shots from Yasmine Scott, Kayla McCarthy, Hollie Marshall, or Paige Moss resulted in a Sanders rebound then shot. With points coming from all positions on the court now, ETC finished the 3rd 28-24 ahead.Both teams really pushed for the win in the final quarter, again Abbie Sanders defended well along side Hollie Carter and Eve Drummond, who had her work cut out against a very tall girl. A very competitive game that finished 32-28 to ETC, this will now hopefully leave our girls with confidence in completing the rest of the season.

Matt Veness did go close to an upset after taking the County player and number 1 seed to a third game.

A promising start for the year 7 girls, in their first ever basketball match. We played with confidence and a lot of fluidity in attack.Both teams were pretty evenly match, and the scores stayed close throughout. We had some very nice offensive plays, with accurate a purposeful passing coming from Kayla McCarthy and Paige Moss. Hollie Marshall and Yasmin Scott worked hard down the wings to provide more outlets for us, and Abbie Sanders used her height to rebound and defended well. All girls worked extremely hard for each other including Hollie Carter and Eve Drummond. The girls have a great team spirit and looked to thoroughly enjoy the game; they learnt a lot from this experience and will hope now to improve with each game.

A fantastic start to the basketball season for the girls, having had a successful introduction to the basketball league last year, the then year 8 girls had an impressive record of 4 wins and 1 loss to Bishop Bell (56-40). First game back this season and the year 9s were joined by the following year 8s to strengthen the squad Rachel Gunn, Imogen Robinson, Kirsty Timms, Chloe Baker, Sapphire Haydes and Mel Albrow, as they have now merged the 8/9 league. As expected it was a hard game, we started slow and went down very quickly 8 points to 2 (Blundell) in the first quarter. Bishop Bell were using a zone defence and made it difficult to break through them for the shot or lay up. It seemed the result from the following year was making the girls nervous, and showed in their timid attacks.The 2nd quarter allowed the girls to settle into the game, we were now really starting to show what we were capable of, and I have to say looked the better team. Blundell with some fantastic lay ups, Omar with some longer range shots, Gouviea strong in defensive and offensive rebounds, and Crotty working hard for the team looking very self assured and quietly confident.The start of the 3rd quarter saw ETC playing with more confidence, The score was now 18-10 to the home team and this was the real turning point for us when Jess Gouveia, Shantelle Omar and Charleigh Crotty really stepped up to the challenge and denied any space for Bishop Bell to gather momentum in attack. Some great Hustle in particular from Jess and Charleigh saw us turn the ball over on a number of occasions to fast break to Blundell and Omar who together made them count. We now managed to not only bring the scores equal to 18 points all, but also took the lead ending the quarter 20-18.1 quarter to go and ETC were not backing down, another shot for us made it now 22-18, but still with minutes on the clock Bishop Bell were desperate to get the ball up the court. A good break for them made the score 22-20, and with seconds on the clock ETC kept possession of the ball in the Bishop Bells half making sure the Bishop Bell did not turn over to equalise.The game ended 22-20 to us, and what a fantastic and exciting start to the season, well done to everyone involved!!!

ETC started the game under pressure, but then a hand ball by hillcrest just outside the box gave ETC a free kick. Will Skillton hit it but the ball smashed into the Hillcrest wall. Not long after this ETC get another free kick and this time Will made the keeper make a good save. Just after this Hillcrest put pressure onto ETC but Owen Francis made a last ditch clearance, Hillcrest pile on the pressure with a shot just passing the post. Soon after Hillcrest score, a mistake from Chris Whiteman allows Hillcrest through to score.

ETC shot to put some pressure back on when Seb Dell played a ball to David Baptista, but Hillcrest defended it well. Hillcrest break on the attack, but Craig picks up the loose ball, Hillcrest then create another attack from a defensive error from Ryan Mills, but he recovers well to win the ball back. At half time the score was ETC 0, Hillcrest 1.

The second half began with a good ball from ETCs midfield that found Harry Nealey, but unfortunately he was offside. Just after this Hillcrest win a free kick but Craig Collins easily punches it away. A lot more attacking play now came from ETC, forcing the Hillcrest defence into mistakes, but nobody from ETC could punish them for it.

A break came from ETC as Ferhat Ozcan plays the ball over the top for Harry, who then returns the favour and picks out Ferhat, who could only direct his header over the bar. Captain Ryan Harris then skipped pass the Hillcrest Midfield, only to see his effort blocked by a Hillcrest defender. Next Will Skilton makes the goalkeeper pull off a good save, and finally ETC score a goal. A fantastic ball from Ryan Harris gives Harry Nealey the opportunity to equalise for ETC, with a well taken shot that beat the keeper. Another free kick came at the closing stages of the game, the initial strike from Harry was blocked by the Hillcrest wall; the rebound fell to David Baptista who then drove the ball to the back of the net; only for the Hillcrest keeper to make another great save. This now takes the game to extra time.

The start of extra time was not the greatest of starts for ETC, with a free kick for Hillcrest. Fortunately for us Ryan Mills was able to clear, and ETC regained composure now showing good attacking form and putting Hillcrest on the back foot. A good cross from Luke Bridger flew past the goal keeper, but no ETC player was able to connect. Tension heated as Ryan Mills took a bad challenge from a hillcrest defender too far and squared up to him.

With no goals scored in Extra time, the game now went to penalties with Hillcrest electing to go first. Hillcrest scored, David Baptista put the ball down on the spot and placed his into the bottom corner. Hillcrest missed, Will Skilton then finished his. A great save from Craig Collins denied Hillcrests 3rd penalty taker, goal scorer Harry Nealey saw his attempt sale wide of the post making the score after 3 penalties each 2-1 to ETC. Another great save from Craig Collins stopped Hillcrest, then up stepped Ryan Harris (Captain) who kept his cool and safely placed his shot into the corner winning the game for ETC 3-1.

Both teams in the first half struggled to produce any clear cut shooting opportunities; we lost possession on numerous occasions from Centre passes and didn’t manage any successful shots. The score at the end of the half was 0-0.

The second half was again an equal battle; however Cavendish took their shots and scored 3 in a row that left us on the back foot. ETC responded with a Katie Booysen shot, unfortunately time was running out for ETC and this wasn’t enough to get back into the game.

A convincing win for the year 9 team away to Cavendish. We worked ourselves to 5-1 up in the first half, with great shooting from OMAR who got 3 and SALISBURY with 2. A strong performance from our defenders, Lola Olusanya, Lauren Annets, and Tash Guthrie who managed to turn over the ball on the Cavendish attacks, keeping the score line down for and creating dangerous attacks.The second half saw the Super Salisbury Show, 5 shots from her and 5 goals. An incredible performance!

A good performance in a high tempo match, that saw very few turnovers from both teams. ETC looked dangerous from their centre pass plays and created a lot of chances for Katie Booysen and Lauren Hunt to shoot. Defensively we looked organised with Amy Stepney using her height to make it difficult for Bishop Bells GA (who was their best player by far) to score.

A solid performance from the year 9 team. On the attack we showed a lot of movement off the ball, and some defence splitting passes came from Lola Olusanya (GD) that often found Shantelle Omar (GA) or Eri Salisbury (GS). A couple of times Causeway did manage to find a way through to the shooting D, but Tash Guthrie (GK) used her height well to cause an off target shot. Lauren Annets had an impressive debut as WD, Emily Gillam (WA) always made herself available as a passing option, and April Marshall (C) worked hard to link play between the defenders and attackers. A better performance from the year 8s, all players worked hard in building attacking chances, and battled well to keep the score line down. I would say it was an equally contested game, and a draw would have been a fair result. However Causeway had greater success when shooting. Strong performances again came from Dani Guthrie and Elysia Cosma.

A tough game for the girls, Cavendish had 4 very experienced netballers that dictated the game from the start. We worked hard, but Cavendish were first to everything. A few glimmers of good play came from ETC on the attack, but Cavendish were quick to recover and regain possession.

Finally a breakthrough for the year 7 girls, we started strong and the training that the girls have been doing each week has clearly started to pay off. We looked the sharper team and had moments of brilliance when we passed and moved. Some exceptional performances came from Holly Marshall, Kayla McCarthy, Abbie Sanders, and Yasmine Scott who are starting to show great potential for future. ETC had all the possession in the first half, all players showed good movement off the ball and an understanding in the game. A good passing move that started with Abbie at the back came to Kayla who passed from defence out wide to Eve Drummond, who was playing WA. Eve then found Hollie Marshall who then switched the play to Hollie Carter. Scott came deep to collect the ball from Carter, with Rhianna Hagger in support. Hagger played a nice 1 2 with Scott who then had a shot and scored! It was half time and ETC were in the lead!The second half came and with good performances from replacements Mel Kelly and Charlotte Freeman, ETC still had all possession but could not seem to score. Cavendish then found an opening on the counter attack and managed to equalise with minutes to go. Fantastic performance by all involved!!

On Wednesday 22nd November ETC’s year 9 B team took on Cavendish school. They had a late kick off as there was some confusion with the pitches. Despite this, Cavendish were on form and went ahead with two early goals within the first 15 minutes. ETC replied five minutes before the break when Beau Baxter-Smith came up with a spectacular volley. This really gave the ETC team hope for the second half. ETC started the half strongly but ten minutes passed with no further goals. This soon changed when Harry Ellingsworth whipped in a vicious shot that curled into the top corner. A tense final 5 minutes ended with a 2 – 2 draw, a great game and a fair result.

ETC travelled to Hailsham for their 4th game of the season with 9 players. With 4 key players out and having not enough to field a starting 11, the odds were not on our side. The first 10 minutes of the half saw the ETC girls completely take charge of the game; Hailsham looked more like the team that only had 10 players on the pitch. Experienced players really stepped up to the mark and showed Great Spirit in setting the standard for the game.We came close to taking the lead on several occasions with shots coming from Shantelle Omar, Lola Olusanya, and Emily Gillam. Accurate and pacey passing from Rachel Gunn and Shantelle finally found Lola, who again took the ball down the right wing; crossed a deadly ball into the box which Hailsham defence found hard to clear; which resulted in Shantelle controlling and hitting the ball into the bottom right hand corner to make it 1-0 ETC!!Now filled with even more confidence, we started to really press Hailsham. Charleigh Crotty pushing up from defence to create more chances for us, Jasmine Izzard in defence looking like she was what England missed in the 3-2 defeat to Croatia, Shantelle Omar actually defending, Rachel Gunn spraying the ball left and right from the centre of midfield, Emily and Lola taking defenders on down the wings, Bekki French getting a foot in when needed, Vicky Davies battling hard up front, and Sophie Boast getting her body behind the ball and playing like n experienced keeper.Again ETC broke down the right with Lola crossing for Emily Gillam to make a late run to the far post for a tap in finish.Just before half time ETC broke again with a long ball from defence, Rachel Gunn got on the end of it and drove forward to the goal, a late challenge then flew in from Hailsham catching Gunns foot taking her out for the rest of the game. A big blow for ETC as Gunn had a superb first half, and we were now down to 8 players with another half to go.The second half saw ETC completely dominating the game, some fantastic passing led to a shot that hit the crossbar from Lola. In the closing stages of the game, a good passing move that again started in defence found Shantelle; who converted to make it 3-0. A truly magnificent performance from the girls, if only there were more people to witness the event.

Our second Nationals game was very disappointing. The Holy Trinity team were not as strong as Angmering, but we performed well below par. From the outset we looked nervous, and turned the ball over many times in the 1st quarter. We never came close until the 4th quarter, when Trinity ran their bench and we reduced the deficit to 6 points. As in our 1st game we missed too many open lay ups, and we were made to pay.Trinity were a better side then us on the day, and this means qualification is impossible for us. We’ve got 2 games next week to try and restore some pride.

However I will take this opportunity to remind those students that play for school teams, a write up of your team/individual performance will only feature in the newsletter if pupils’ behaviour during the fixture is a good example of how we want our school to be represented. Friday 16th November: YEAR 11b BOYS FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

As the players in Year 11 have attended training sessions over the previous few weeks it was decided to take two teams to the district tournament to enable more players to be involved.
Both sides played attractive "Champagne" football and not only provided entertainment for the massed crowds but also produced goals and impressive results. Each team played 2 matches and won both with some impressive team play and clinical finishing especially from Nathan Birch and Ryan Weston.

In the third matches our First team lost their way a little and despite creating many chances were unable to put the ball in the net and allowed Hailsham to steal the win. Meanwhile our second team, yet again, played with style and control and cruised to another 1-0 victory.
Our final match was an ETC First versus ETC Second team battle. Our second team only needed a draw to win the tournament; a win for our first team would crown them as Champs. What a great position to be in, both teams had showed fantastic team spirit and a full understanding of the tactics needed to win matches.

The game was played in a sporting manner with no quarter given. The First team dominated much of the game and built up a 2 goal lead which could have been an even greater lead if not for some solid keeping from Jack "the Cat" Salt. The second team never gave up and after a mazy run from Michael Modesto pulled a goal back. You could smell the tension; well I think it was tension! As the clock ran down, with less than a minute left of the match Peter Sadunajski hit a long shot which hit the post and flew into the back of the old onion bag.

The players and several hundred spectators went wild. The second team had drawn the game but won the tournament with our first team coming in runner up spot.

The "We are the Champions" celebrations on the return journey would have made Freddie Mercury proud.

Well done both teams, great performances, spectacular results and marvellous team work.

Wednesday 14th November: YEAR 9B FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

Last Wednesday two of our yr 9 B-teams went to Hailsham for a 6-a-side tournament. Both teams put in a valiant effort and won themselves some points with a couple of draws, but it all come down to the last game. Mr.Booth versus Mr.Stewart.
Both their teams battled hard to create chances; a great save was made by the keeper Jake Taylor only for Harry Ellingsworth to quickly follow up for a tap in. This sealed the match for Mr. Booth’s team, which meant they finished an overall third.
A special mention goes to Chris Mockford and Wei Lin for their great defending.

Willingdon started the game well; they created a lot of chances in the 1st 20 minutes which enabled them to score 2 goals, putting ETC on the back foot. ETC came back fighting back with great strikes from Nathan Burch and Ryan Weston, which made it 2 all. By this point ETC were dominating all over the pitch, a long ball from midfield beat the Willingdon defence; which allowed Burch to run through for a 1 on 1 with the keeper that he easily put away to make it 3-2 ETC. A lapse in concentration from ETC saw Willingdon take the opportunity to equalise, making it 3 all. Ryan Weston broke through to strike on goal, to make it 4-3 to ETC. Willingdon came back to equalise within 5 minutes making the score 4 all. This was now turning into a real battle for both teams, when out of nowhere in the closing minutes of the game, Luke West dribbled the ball down the right wing. Saw the keeper off his line and took a fantastic early shot with the outside of his boot, that curled in to land in the bottom left hand corner of the goal. Final score ETC 5, Willingdon 4.

A poor start from ETC saw Bishop Bell quickly taking the lead in the opening minutes of this title clash game. ETC were 1-0 down and still Bishop Bell looked the more up for it team. A few wrong decisions saw Bishop Bell through on goal again to make it 2-0 20 minutes into the game. The last minutes of the half saw a few glimmers of light for ETC coming from Shantelle, Lola and Hannah Blundells attacking play down the wings, a cross from Blundell found Shantelle; whos early shot beat the keeper to find the bottom left hand corner of the net. Half time score 2-1 to Bishop Bell! The second half saw a different ETC out on the pitch, every single player on the team worked and battled hard to win the ball to get it in the danger area for us. Jasmine Izzard now started to command the defence making us look strong and confident, allowing Charleigh Crotty to push into midfield helping with attacks.At this point ETC had now settled well into the game, Bishop Bell struggled to get the ball out of their own half for the 1st 20 minutes, finally a break through came from Lola squeezing the ball past 3 or 4 defenders to make it 2 all. 10 minutes now left of the game, ETC have all the possession, and Bekki French, Jasmine Izzard and Rachel Gunn are looking in control at the back. Our midfield worked hard with crosses and shots coming from Lauren Hughes, Hannah Blundell, Emily Gillam, Lola Olusanya, Immy Robinson and Shantelle Omar. Unfortunately for us the Keeper was moving well and saving anything that came towards her. Finally pressure paid off, and again a crossed ball saw Emily Gillam scoring her debut goal for ETC, making the score 3-2. All ETC had to do now was keep hold of the ball for the dying minutes of the game, but with light fading it made it hard for both teams to stay focused. Bishop Bell now had nothing to lose and pushed for the equalising goal, they managed to break through 2 or 3 times but Sophie Boast claimed the ball well from goal. A minute to go saw Shantelle Omar get onto the end of Boasts goal kick, running the ball towards the corner and keeping hold of it until the whistle. Final score 3-2 ETC, a very entertaining game.

Our year 9 team has been unbeaten in Eastbourne for the past two years. We have regularly beaten local schools by 50 points plus. So BBO entered the year 9 boys into the hardest competition in England, ‘The Nationals’.

We are in a group of 6, and the top 2 teams will qualify to the last 16.On Thursday, we travelled to Angmering Sports College, which has an excellent reputation for producing high quality teams and athletes.From the outset we knew that we were up against a very skilful and talented Angmering team.

It later was revealed that 2 of their players are in the England under 14 squad, and Francis is in the starting 5 for England!!I am so proud of all 10 of our players. They were committed, never gave up and scored 59 points.

Angmering had never given up more then 40 points in a game.Joe Marodza was the best point guard on show and stole the ball on numerous occasions.Ty Berry and Nathan Carr coped admirably whilst guarding Francis, and learnt a lot from the game.

Billy Alsop was MVP. Outstanding at both ends of the court, he performed superbly and top scored with 15 points.Matt Mulhern impressed on debut, James Sib worked the screen well. Jake Wallis played through injury and Bob, Cain and Michael picked up valuable rebounds and experience.BBO believes we have played one of the strongest teams in England who will reach the final 4.

Francis scored 39 points and had a superb all round game, he will go far in Basketball.Our boys stayed within 33 points and this has been a good grounding for our 4 games before Christmas. If we win our 4 remaining games then we will qualify in 2nd place. Again congratulations to the team, very proud even though it was loss.

I hope our players join local teams this season.

ETC have looked confident in the run up to this fixture, the girls have trained hard and the majority have shown great commitment. Jodie Nulty lead by example in Centre and drove the team in attacks and when defending. Again Willingdon have a very strong experienced squad so ETC needed to be on the ball for this game. At half time ETC were 2-1 up with Katie Booysen scoring for us. The 1st 5 minutes of the second half saw Willingdon come at us, ETC held off 3 or 4 attacks but they finally broke through Heather Charlton, Amy Stepney and Taz Adcock after about 7 minutes to equalise. From then on Willingdon scored another 4 goals, but ETC were still not down and out. 6-2 down the last couple of minutes saw some good attacking play from Laura Kosvic, Jodi, Katie and Shanice Weston to bring ETC back to 6-4. However with the clock ticking we ran out of time, another couple of minutes cold have seen ETC equalise. The girls played a superb match and have left us confident about the rest of the season.

ETC had only 6 players 15 minutes before the game, thankfully Sam Kelly (year 10) stepping in as GK with Willingdons consent and played very well. ETC made a fantastic start to the game. Willingdon are renowned for having strong Netball teams, so when ETC took the lead through Lola Olusanya, it filled the girls with a huge confidence that they could actually compete if not beat this team. Willingdon equalised just before the end of the first half, but ETC still looked comfortable in the game. The second half saw a great battle between the 2 teams; this is by far the best that ETC have played. Imagine how good they would be if they trained. Well done to all involved.

MVP- LOLA OLUSANYA “work rate and shooting was excellent” and JESS GOUVEIA “made a huge difference to our defence, marked extremely well and showed good ball distribution”.

ETC were put under pressure very early on into this match, with some good passing moves from Cavendish. 2 early goals in the 1st 15 minutes left ETC on the back foot, struggling to regain composure. Cavendish then went on to score another 3 before half time.
The second half saw ETC start to lift their game and compete with Cavendish, Barney Feek almost getting on the end of a couple of through balls, and Matt Veness getting a one on one with the keeper. However the difference between the 2 teams was the Cavendish Captain, he controlled all the play, and assisted another 3 goals for Cavendish to complete their victory.

A rocky start for ETC, it was clear in the first 5 minutes that Ratton relied heavily on one player to create chances for them. Without Hannah Blundell (captain) in central midfield, Jasmin Izzard was called upon to mark the Ratton threat out of the game.
The first half was very end to end, our only threat coming from Lauren Hughes corners, which unfortunately ETC could not get on the end of. Shots coming from Shantelle Omar, Lauren Hughes (captain), Immy Robinson and Jasmin Izzard could still not give ETC the lead. With all the attempts on goal, including a missed penalty; and the possession we had it was very disappointing to go in 0-0 at half time.

The second half saw Ratton come at us, forcing Charleigh Crotty to make 3 or 4 fantastic saves. Finally we got a break through 15 minutes into it, with a ball down the wing to Lola who then ran at Rattons defence, to release an early shot into the bottom right corner. Moments later ETC lost the ball in their own half for Rattons pacey left winger to run the ball all the way to ETCs goal for a tap in.

ETC lost some composure, losing possession again but this time to Rattons most influential player, who then went on to put Ratton 2-1 up.
With moments to go, ETC threw everything they could at them, Robinson coming close to equalise, and Omar hitting the post. A half chance then fell to Shantelle Omar just on the edge of the area, she hit the ball on the half volley that looped over the keeper into the top left corner. A very well taken goal, final score 2 all.

ETC faced a Ratton team who had defeated them 7-2 last season without Alsop, Smith and Maryan.
Despite continuous pressure in the first half, ETC could not find a break through. Mulhern, Olusanya, Nealey and Marodza all going close. The defence was superb, and Ratton had very little chances to score.
The second half was more even. With just 5 minutes to go, it was still 0-0, but two defensive lapses in concentration led to 2 Ratton goals and 3 points.

First game of the season for the year 8s, and it certainly was a wake up call. It has given the girls plenty to work on if they want to improve for future games. A positive taken from the game was that ETC managed to score, showing that Bishop Bell were not impossible to break down.

A tough fixture for ETCs first game, Bishop Bell started fast. Every attack led to a goal, with some clinical passing. ETC lost possession too easily in the first half and almost gifted Bishop Bell.
The second half saw some better play from ETC, Lola Olusanya, Tash Guthrie, Toni Robertson upped their games. We were competing well with Bishop Bell but did not take all our chances. A lesson learnt I feel.

After being humiliated in their previous game, the year 8 Team had a lot to prove.
ETC started positively and had a good move down the right by Findlayson and Wood resulted in Bridger scoring from 12 yards. The second soon followed when a long ball forward by Dunne was latched onto by Wood who finished well.
Ratton upped their game and replied with two well taken goals to equalise. Just before half time a managerial master stroke by Bowles, replaced Dunne and Findlayson with super subs Newman and Scotcher. They combined to force a corner from which Spence volleyed home from 20 yards.
After half time ETC extended their lead to 4-2, when Scotcher feed Wood whose shot was parried and Newman was in the right place at the right time.
With time running out, Ratton pushed more players forward and put ETC under tremendous pressure, and they found the twice to equalise again at 4-4.

Hailsham boy Bowles got himself on the score sheet for the first time this season. A menacing run forward and a pin perfect pass by Mr Moore, deflected off Mr Bowles’ shin to sneak pass Hailshams SCOTTISH INTERNATIONAL Goal keeper, who could only watch as it trickled past the goal line!
Unfortunatley it was an injury ridden day for ETC, Mr Booth, Mr Jones, Mr Stewart, Mr Sams, PC Davies and the returning Mr Atkinson all hobbled off the pitch looking worse for wear. Congratulations to the remaining 6 players that were still able to walk off the pitch at full time.

Having had low representation of year 7 girls at the netball trials, the season was not looking promising for ETC. With fixtures looming, and a lot of hard work and persistence from Hollie Marshall and Kayla McCarthy we finally pulled together a squad to play their first triangular fixture.
Causeway was the first game, and although ETC had not practised together things were looking pretty even to start with, some good passing and moving from Hollie Marshall, Mel Kelly and Courtney Saunderson could not be converted for ETC. However the very tall GA and GS for Causeway did not need asking twice and scored from all of their opportunities, despite some good defensive play from Tshana Curtis.
Next ETC had Bishop Bell, well known for having strong netball teams. Bishop Bell started well. With a Centre that dictated their whole game Hollie Marshall had her work cut out. ETC pulled together and worked hard, but Bishop Bell were too good. Some positives were taken from the game however, with Hollie Carter, Eve Drummond and Charlotte Freeman showing character and battling hard to make it difficult for the Bishop Bell players. WELL DONE TO ALL INVOLVED!!

Despite a fairly rocky start ETC soon found their feet and eased their way into the game. Having had 1 trial earlier in the week, lost some players of last season, and gained new squad members. ETCs key players pulled the team together for a strong start to the season.During the 1st 5-10 minutes Seaford put a lot of pressure on our defence, we soaked it up well and broke 3 times for Shantelle Omar, Immy Robinson and Kez trainer to score some well taken goals.Having now found our feet ETC started to play the ball around comfortably and with confidence. Sam McDonnell and Rachel Gunn looked promising in their new roles in the centre of defence, with great debuts from Becky French (right back) and Sophie Boast (left back). Hannah Blundell and Lauren Hughes started picking out their passes to the wings, which allowed us to take full advantage of Lolas pace a crossing ability down the right. ETC came in at half time 5-0 up with goals another 2 goals from Omar and Robinson. ETC came out fast in the 2nd half, it didn’t take Hannah Blundell long to get on the score sheet, which was well deserved having worked so hard in the first half, followed by a goal from French having over lapped down the left to finish well from a pass from Lauren Hughes.The girls were in full flow now, with subs Kerrie McEwan, Tanya Gregory, and Vicky Davies coming on and working hard for the team. Another 2 goals for Shantelle from Hannah and Lolas passes. A deserved goal for Lola who had an outstanding game, followed by a 2nd goal for Hannah finishing a deep cross from Lauren Hughes. A special mention must be for Charleigh Crotty, who managed to maintain concentration in goal for the full 60 minutes.Good performance all round, but we will face stronger teams!

ETC deservedly grabbed 3 points despite a great performance by the Bishop Bell goal keeper. Despite good attempts by Billy Alsop, Jake Wallis and Ollie Nealey, the score was 0-0 at half time.Immediately after the interval, Bishop Bell took the lead against the run of play. However, Matt Mulhern equalised with a great run and shot. Bishop Bell responded immediately, and regained the lead after poor defending. It was left to JJ Flaherty to equalise for the 2nd time after a corner was cleared to the edge of the box where Flaherty struck into the bottom corner. With Just 3 minutes remaining, Joe Marodza scored the winner after reaching first when the ball rebounded back off the crossbar.

The year 7s got their first win of the season. The defence was far tighter than in the 1st game, due to Craig Dell playing sweeper. Danny Rodford used his pace up front and finished clinically. Captain Paul Weatherby was again the driving force behind the ETC attacks. Alex Hughes impressed from centre midfield.A good performance, but we will face stronger teams this season.MOM- DANNY RODFORD “A threat upfront” and PAUL WEATHERBY “2 great strikes from outside the box”.

After only a 1 hour trial, the New Year 7 squad took to the field. It always takes time to find positions for players and getting our strongest line up.We were very unlucky to lose this game; we had the majority of the play, but kept getting caught on the counter attack.Paul Weatherby was outstanding, Jake Modestou crossed the ball with no one getting on the end of them. Striker Pat James converted 2 of his chances.We had at least 15 chances in this game and tired in the 2nd half.
